Trigger Warning !

Recently I attended a roundtable about the current temp on the fight against sex trafficking and urban youth. Those serving the most vulnerable kids have many concerns. There is a lack of resources to stop the cycle of institutionalization. And the implications of spiritual warfare along with others tactics used by traffickers.
While in detention most youth feel safer locked up rather than returning to toxic environments. Bringing knowledge on this crisis to communities, building healthier neighborhoods and providing training for advocates will help solve this. The court systems are also having trouble when it comes to screening for trafficking. On the top of all this we have a new layer called sextortion. Sextortion uses the internet to black mail youth to commit sexual and violent acts. Most of these traffickers live over seas. Making them hard to catch. I have also proposed a Children's Bill of Rights.
Grooming through coercion causes a false sense of family between traffickers and victims. Choosing recruitment intervention over criminalizing these minors would be best. Educating the youth is another way to divert the desperation that leads to being lured into the underworld.
